Law enforcementguidelines.
Valid legal process required
We disclose non-public account information only upon receipt of a valid subpoena, court order, search warrant, or equivalent legal process from a jurisdiction with authority over Metta Protocol LLC. Requests from outside the United States must generally proceed through an MLAT, letter rogatory, or the CLOUD Act framework.
Narrow scope
- We object to overbroad or fishing-expedition requests.
- Requests must identify specific accounts (MettaTag, email, or user ID) and a reasonable time window.
- Content-of-communications requests (chat messages, uploaded evidence) generally require a search warrant supported by probable cause.
Emergency disclosure
In good faith emergencies involving imminent risk of death or serious bodily harm, we may disclose information without legal process per 18 U.S.C. § 2702(b)(8) and (c)(4). Use emergency@mettapays.com and include the emergency contact's name and phone.
User notice
We will notify affected users of legal requests unless prohibited by law (e.g., an NSL or gag order), or when notice would risk imminent harm, obstruction, or destruction of evidence.
Preservation
We honor 90-day preservation requests under 18 U.S.C. § 2703(f), extendable once.
